Harry Potter Mayhem

The Harry Potter fanatics are going nuts at the Teton Theater.  They started lining up in the morning on Thursday, and now they have reached a frenzy.

Sunset from Moran

The halcyon days of summer are here.  (If you have time to enjoy them while you’re working your ass off.)  Perfect weather.  Spectacular scenery.  Big traffic jams in the Park as tourists go frantic over animal sightings.  I’m a bit jaded, but I did see something cool – 4 or 5 elk swimming accross Ox Bow Bend.  (My camera’s too wimpy to get an image of that.)

Summer Comes to Buffalo Valley

It was a beautiful afternoon in Buffalo Valley on Wednesday.  I can’t believe it took all the way until the summer solstice for summer to kick in.
As I was walking on the Elk Refuge today it occurred to me that Jackson Hole is my Jerusalem.  Of course Jerusalem is also “my Jerusalem”, but My spirituality has always revolved around the beauty of this valley.  When I think of the good things in life that give me faith I think of Jackson Hole.  I wonder if Miller Butte is my Western …

Raptor Day in Wilson… Tourists are Back… South Dakota Shoot-out Goes Wrong…

RaptorFest at the Teton Raptor Center at the Hardeman Barns in Wilson (tetonraptorcenter.org) seemed successful.  Lots of people.  Colorful dancers.  A good showing for a first time event.  They even had greeters at the end of the driveway.  I guess Wal-Mart has blazed a trail for another local non-profit.

They’re Baaaack!!!  Tourists are back clogging the square.  That’s a good thing if you are trying to make a living.  Seems like a lot of Japanese this month.  The weak U.S. dollar is good for something.

Carnaval de Tlaxcala

Carnaval de Tlaxcala took place Saturday in the parking lot of the Teton County Library. This was a crazy 45 minute long polka with no breaks in the music. Deafening keyboard and bass blasted out of the sound system drowning out the trap set while dancers jived in vivid costumes. Very cool, but also quite tedious.

Chuck Leavell Speaks and Plays at Jackson Hole Community School Graduation

Chuck Leavell gave the commencement address to the seniors of the Jackson Hole Community School on Friday, May 27. The ceremonies took place in Jackson Hole’s Center for the Arts. Leavell, who is a monster musician, was very charming and articulate as he wended his way through platitudinous remarks, and a piano bar rendition of “Here Comes the Sun”.

Congratulations to: Katherine Morgan Lunsford, Sarah Christina Lucas, Carmen Alicia Bonilla, John Patrick Donovan, Cooper William Field

C-Bar-V Ranch Graduation 2011

I made my annual trek out to the C-Bar-V Ranch for their graduation ceremony.  It’s always a moving experience. C-Bar-V Ranch is a school for special needs kids.

Pro-Israel Demonstration Looks a Little Lonely

Three lonesome demonstrators showed their support for Israel on Monday on the northwest corner of Broadway and Buffalo Way.  I dropped by to show some support and to chat for a while.  Though I’m a big fan of Israel I’m not a Kool-Aid drinker.  I realize that the Palestinians have a beef, and that there needs to be accommodation on both sides, but I admire Israel’s scrappy courage in the face of threats from psychotically hostile neighbors and the hypocritical condemnation of the majority of U.N. states.

The gang of three …
