More maps

More maps and charts at the Comprehensive Plan workshop at the Senior Center last night. Lot’s of resistance to development/redevelopment among those in attendance. Earnest facilitators. Good munchies. Baffling planner speak. Maddening minutia. Crusty suburban sensibilities.

Is this really necessary?

The airport has preferred parking for low emission vehicles. The snooty arrogance of the “greener than thou” movement is really tedious. With so many spaces reserved for the handicapped and the green elite the close in spots are getting hard to find. I’m worried that someday I’ll get to the airport and all the parking spots will have signs that say “Anybody but Judd”.

The Jackson Hole Community School Video club meets once per week to produce a weekly video shown to the JHJC students on Tuesday afternoons. They claim that humor and awkward moments are their focus.
“We make videos that generally make fun of polices,” Will Grassel stated, while he was shooting an unsuspecting subject.
When we asked him why? he said that the that they do this because the weekly video “get their minds off of school.” Grassel said the general audience looks forward to humorous videos and because it’s shown towards the …

Jackson Youth Football banquet

Jackson Youth Football held their year end banquet in the Jackson Hole Middle School Commons last night. It actually wasn’t as chaotic as in past years. Usually it’s about 100 boys running amuck, but this year went pretty smoothly.
JYF is a very well run program. The coaches do a terrific job.

9/11 Remembered : The Empire Strikes Iraq!

You’re all clear, kid, now let’s blow this thing and go home! – Han Solo

On the morning of September 11, 2001 I was asleep in a cozy little cabin in the beautiful high country region of Yosemite National Park.  Giant redwoods loomed nearby.  My world was serene and revolved around climbing massive granite blocks when not working as the “maintenance guy” at an environmental education center.  Frantic knocks on the door raised me from bed followed by the entry of a close friend and cups of hot coffee.
“I’ve got good …

That means the 99% pay 62% of taxes. Maybe the 99% should start paying their fair share?

Occupy JH

About 30 people showed up on the Town Square today to represent the 99% who would like to wrest more money and power from the 1%.  Protesters were polite and well spoken.  Their wide ranging concerns included the undue influence of lobbyists and money on politics, concern that the rich and corporations aren’t paying enough taxes, the need for healthcare reform, the need to protect the environment, and the need to create more jobs.  They all seem to agree that capitalism and democracy are not working correctly for the benefit …

University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra Performs

The University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra performed at Walk Hall last night (http://www.uwyo.edu/music/ensembles/symphony_orchestra.html).  They are good!  I was impressed with the skill of the players.  The orchestra nearly outnumbered the audience. I hate all the phony baloney formality of classical music: goofy tuxes, applause upon the entering of the soloist and the conductor.  They did a modern classical piece that was quite charming.
