Cubin Will Not Run Again

Congresswoman Barbara Cubin announced on Saturday at the Republican State Central Committee meeting that she will not be running again for election in 2008.  She has been in for the last 14 years.   Congresswoman Cubin has been under pressure from her fellow Republicans to not run again.  She has missed almost half of the votes this year because she broke her ankle a few months ago, and her husband has been ill in the hospital.  I can't recall actually ever meeting Barbara Cubin, but I may have shaken her hand at some point.  It was just always odd to me that I know our two U.S. Senators so well, but I don't know our congresswoman.  It would seem that this would be the other way around, since it is assumed that your congressperson is usually more responsive to the people, since they have to be elected every two years, as opposed to every 6 years for Senators.  This of course opens the door to quite a race for 2008.  It has usually been tradition for most announcements as to who is running to wait until after the legislative session has ended.  This year it ends in early March.  But the way elections are going now a days, where you have to start so early, I would assume that some of the more serious candidates may start announcing.  So far, a few have announced, but no one of any viability as a candidate.  Who do you think should run?  Some potential names being discussed --- Cynthia Lummis (former legislator, State Treasurer), Colin Simpson (Speaker Pro-Tem), Roy Cohee (Speaker), Randall Luthi (former Speaker from Star Valley)
