Building A Strong Wyoming

Hosted by Wyoming State Representative Keith Gingery of Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole Community Counseling Grand Opening Today
Tonight at 5 p.m. the Jackson Hole Community Counseling Center will be holding their Grand Opening for their building that sits across from the hosptial.  Along with the Grand Opening fesitivities they are showing the movie "People Say I'm Crazy" at the Center for the Arts, which is the real life story of an artist's struggle with schizophrenia.  I presently serve as the Co-Chairman along with Senator Aullman for the Wyoming Select Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse.  I am the past president of the Wyoming Associaiton of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Centers, served as President of the Board of Fremont Counseling, and served on the board of Jackson Hole Community Counseling.  I am deeply committed to improving our mental health system in the State of Wyoming.  In the last 2 years, the Wyoming Legislature has implemented over $50 million in new programs to serve the needs of those with mental illness.  One of the more exciting programs is the Children's Mental Health Wavier.  In the past, if your child had mental illness issues, many times you had to give up your parental rights to the child and turn the child over to the custody of the Department of Family Services in order to qualify for services.  Through the waiver, we have now put a stop to this procedure, and provide the services while keeping the children in the custody of their parents.   If you go to the movie tonight, please post your comments as to what you thought of the movie.
